Assistant Retail Store Manager / Farm Worker

 

Kensington Prairie Farm Ltd, Langley, BC

Salary: $35,000/annum (rate dependant upon experience)

 

Type of Employment: Full-time, permanent employment (40 hours per week). Successful applicant expected to work weekends.
Please note: 50% of this position will require you to be inside, in a retail setting and 50% of the job will often take place outside.

 

Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

 

Store Manager:

Reporting to the farm owner, the Retail Manager is required to:

  • Assist store owner with the management of the on-farm and online retail store;
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of alpaca fibre and promote its attributes and benefits to customers in order to help the customer make a purchasing decision;
  • Responsible for opening and closing the store, including cashing out;
  • Greet and welcome customers in a friendly and engaging manner
  • Provide the best visual & personal interaction experience for our customers
  • Handle customer complaints in accordance with company policy;
  • Process sales transactions at the POS (point-of-sale) counter;
  • Receive inventory, ticket & price new items, stock, replenish and organize merchandise displays, as required;
  • Arrange and promote new stock and/or special sale/clearance items at the front of the store for maximum visibility;
  • Take photographs of new products, create written product descriptions and upload information to the online store platform;
  • Add, delete and update online store inventory items, ensuring adequate stock levels, etc.
  • General housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, washing and dusting;
  • Other duties as required/assigned by company owner.

 

Farm Worker:

Reporting to the farm manager, the Farm Worker is required to:

  • Feed and tend to livestock (alpaca, cattle and poultry), including cleaning barns and pens;
  • Assist with animal husbandry duties in conjunction with other farm staff;
  • Assist in field/pasture maintenance (checking fences/gates, sprinkler set-up/rotation, noxious weed removal, weed whacking, etc.) and general garden / storefront maintence, as required;
  • Other general ‘farm’ tasks, as directed by owner or farm manager.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • High school completion, post-secondary marketing education an asset;
  • Basic farm knowledge is an asset;
  • One year minimum experience in retail services;
  • Ability to understand and follow information and instructions presented;
  • General knowledge of retail accounting software (i.e. Quickbooks Pro) is an asset (willing to train the right candidate);
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with others;
  • Personal initiative and demonstrated willingness to learn new tasks;
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and problem-solve desirable;
  • Familiar with occupational health and safety policies/procedures;
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
