Hand-Knit Thrummed Mittens

These thrummed mittens are a warm choice for cold winter days. Thrummed knitwear was invented in Newfoundland, Canada as an effective way to ward off the harsh cold environment. Made of luxurious alpaca, the knitting has "staples" (three-inch lengths) of raw wool fibre, or roving, knitted into the item, forming a "polka-dot" on the right side and a thick padded interior. Eventually, the roving will mat together forming a warm, insulating layer.
